Rueben Jack Tutukaka

RUEBEN JACK
was built by Morgan Boats of Picton. Rueben Jack is a 40ft fast crayfishing hard chime vessel built sturdy and safe for Cook Strait and West Coast waters. Top speed 15kts. She is in Survey and licensed for 9 passengers, although we prefer up to 6 people on fishing charters. We carry an 8 man life raft and all the mandatory safety gear Epirb and life jackets. She has been built as a fishing work boat and is not a cruising boat but we will stay out overnight for 2 or more days with 3 passengers. We have a deepfreeze, gas stove, clean electric toilet, shower and 5 bunks. She is equipped with computer navigation, GPS, VHF, auto pilot and the very best of fish finding electronics.

TARGET SPECIES We specialise in bottom fishing for most of the year and we have a good record of catching big snapper and hapuka. We can anchor and fish but we have had a lot of success drifting in the deeper waters. Rueben Jack is a low slung boat with an iron shoe on the keel and has a low profile, therefore she drifts really slow. If not slow enough we hang off a sea anchor (no anchors or vibrating rope to alarm the fish) just like the kayakers do.

MARLIN FISHING Jan - May Although Rueben Jack is a no frills type of boat and tries to make the fishing as inexpensive as we can, we have a very experienced and friendly crew (no hassles). We cater for inexperienced anglers as well.
Skipper Norm McKinley has won a lot of the Northern Tournaments over the years and has caught for anglers over 20 blue marlin in NZ. In Australia numerous small black marlin in Queensland over 4 years. His heaviest marlin weighed 416 kilos and held the NZ record for 10 years. Lastest success: Champion skipper in the 2008 Truckers and Loggers Contest Bay of Islands. 1 blue and 2 striped marlin for an Australian team.

CHARTER DETAILS We supply all  line fishing gear for snapper and hapuka if required. Bring your own if you have them. For marlin and deepsea sport fishing we supply the rods, lures and bait.
